How Times have changed...

Was at work today and it was quiet, so we were talking about cars. Two of the youngest guys who work with me - 21 and 23 are looking at buying new cars. What I was pretty surprised about was that they were reading What Car and looking on the web and saying "xxx... is good, look it has a 5 star Euro-ncap rating, or "xx has deadlocks too!".... This one has a co rating of...

When I was that age, I couldn't give a toss about security or safety , I just wanted something fun and "quick" that I could afford and mod a little. I'm still like that too to a point So is their behaviour typical of 21 year olds and motors today and/or is mine just a petrolhead thing??

Welcome to the new generation who have been cotton wooled by state and mother all their lives. They probably run screaming from spiders too, hands waving in a girly type way :-) And, they *will* phone the AA to change a tyre... ;-)

Pansies!

F*ck knows. At 21 (and still, not much older yet), the most important thing is a) does it go quick? and b) does it last?

If the answer to both is yes, then I quite fancy one.

Nothing wrong with looking at NCAP ratings, I did when I got the FR on the other had it also goes well and was replacing a car I put on it's roof at a fair pace.

Really? My nephew turned 18 last week and the last time I saw him, I was helping him haul a 1.6 engine out a Mk3 Astra to make way for a C20XE...

a) Correct b) Poof. Reliability is for girls.

I had a hire car delivered with a slow puncture recently. I complained about it (bad move BTW, see later) and they said call this number to get it fixed. So I did. I got connected to the AA who said that they woudl come out and change the wheel for me. No, I said I can do that myself, I need a fix because this vehicle has a space saver tyre.

Oh, we don't do that, most drivers just want someone to change the tyre for them.

Anyway, I got the space saver on and returned the car tot he hire office and demanded a replacement. It got rather heated as they insisted I had to pay for the tyre I had "damaged". Although at one point the shop girl admitted that they knew it had a slow leak but "It's not serious enough to change." Having got that witnessed I didn't have to pay their bloody charge.

Europcar BTW, complete pack of bastards. I've had nothing but agro from them both here and in the rest of Europe. I refuse to use them now.

They're quite clearly gay, they probably even bum each other in the work toilets at lunchtime, both of them thinking about you.

Avoid them at all costs, or you *will* catch it :)

Unless they have (female) partners who may also be driving the car?
