I keep having perverse thoughts that.....

406 is better. The end.

So its not all about power at all, its all about crappy gizmos. More power is a means to an end.

The ill effects are less power, less power weight. Without them you would have more of both. So its all about power you should take them all off IYSWIM.

I'd says its all about enjoying yourself personally. You can define that in any way you like :)

the rover 600 is minging compared to a 406, and it is as quick, maybe not round bends but it is deffo quicker, more top end too.

Um, well it's a bit heavier and, in earlier incarnations no more powerful, so it is slower. However, the later versions had 210Bhp, giving them almost exactly the same power:weight as the Ti, so it's much more comparible. The peak torque is higher in the 406 (284nm vs 235nm), but it probably isn't a perfectly flat torque spread like the Ti, and I don't have any actual power curves to compare it, so I dunno what the in-gear performance is like. I would imagine they are very similar, although in

1st and 2nd the Ti has the advantage of the TorSen diff.

406 has more room inside.

But it's slower, French, heavier, and thirstier.

It is all about power - the gizmos are only crappy if you don't have enough power to overcome them :)

No - the solution to the problems you describe, is more power :)

Rubbish.

The 600 holds a number of design-awards (including the prestigious Design Council Award, awarded on it's release in '94), simply cos it's a very pretty shape. It's very sleek compared to it's peers too - floor-to-roof height is the lowest in class.

Granted, you may not like it. But there's no denying that it IS a classy look - ask the design bods who allocate the awards.

No, it's not.

Or on straights.

Stop this madness !

TI has more traction, is quicker to 60, quicker in-gear, and quicker through-the-gears.

If only. On an old car, it's often problems with the crimped connectors on a multipole plug. And corrision on the wire itself makes this difficult to repair properly - even assuming you can get a new connector and have the correct crimp tool.

Which means less gizmos :)

I thought it came out earlier than 94 - I'm sure I've seen K reg, and possibly even a J reg one. Seriously.

Private plates - the Mondeo preceded the 600.

Hmmmmm. I wonder why the Honda Accord didn't win anything? - nothing to do with a backhander from the British motor industry by any chance?

That's bollocks. The 600 looks incredibly dated these days whereas the Pininfarina designed Pugs still look fresh today.

You think so?

Well yes of course you think so...

floor-to-roof

I think the 405 was Pininfarina designed wannit?

So I think so too :) Unless the 405 wasn't, then i don't care either way :D

It was. As was, ISTR, the 205.

so why is it lordy can go from Ti to vaux v6, which is massively inferior to a 406 V6?

Oh, you mean like the Streetka?

Needs the interior room?

Doesn't need the performance?

Reply to

That's right. Only, in the case of the Streetka, Pininfarina only lopped the top off it, they didn't start with a blank sheet of paper.

Which is why the Streetka looks s**te.

Because it just came up at the right price (and right spec) after the insurance was finally sorted for the dizzy bitch in the Punto ramming me at the traffic lights.
