As for the OP's question. RWD. Cheap. Disposable it's going to get battered in drift battle or you are going to hit the wall a few times learning. Small turning circle when you hit lock stop it's all over. Near 50/50 weight bias anything with more rear bias like MR/RR will be hard to initiate and just keep going, anything with less rear bias like most cars with 6 cylinder engine up front will have snap oversteer, easy to initiate but just wants to turn tail so hard to hold at an angle. Easy to setup suspension for toe and camber front and rear (semi trailing arms just won't do). Easy cheap bolt on 300bhp.
I've heard of 944's going for £50 on 'A' or 'B' plate. Or you could get the car that the Japs produced as a 944 copy. Just don't bother with the USA version, that had a 2.4L 155bhp truck engine (not sure if that's better than a van engine).
944 has little history of success unlike the Japanese copy which has history of winning drift championship.Hold it, you can't bolt 300bhp to a 944 cheaply, easy yes, just fit 3L turbo from a 968 but not cheap. So that just leaves the jap copy. It's in there somewhere.
