I just got a quote from confused adding Vamps ban he may get and my insurance quote went up by 60 quid a year, so it's not that bad, I am a bit older than him though :)

Details I added to my policy was

1 x SP50 (speeding on motorway) Ban 6 months £1000 fine

It's still an SP50 which is not drink driving, or driving with no insurance etc, it's classed as a minor offence.

Lots older and driving a not very high performance 4 door saloon.

Take off 10 or so years and add an imported MR2 Turbo and things will look more than a bit different..... even dropping to an MX-5 might not help as they're still a relatively high insurance group / high risk car for a young driver.

Ambulance chasing soliciters, incorrectly marked bend, bike crash, paraplegic result!

I see where your coming from but relatively speaking his insurance will already be high, best way to sort this is, VAMP get on confused.com and do a quote, see how much the MR2 is before and after, you have up to 5 quotes at any one time, I am interested to see what the price is before and after :)

Poor observation, inappropriate speed, riding like a f****it.

Remind me, why should the council be responsible for that?

Failiure to provide air fences, not enough run off area, no on site marshalling, no st johns, and the rescu copter was too slow.

You should offer your services to the council so they can begin appeal proceedings. I think you're right, there's no need for councils to actually follow the regulations for road markings - they can just blame any motorists who crash.

And the same logic, when people trip over uneven paving slabs, the council could just declare that the people "are clumsy" and "it is their own fault for not paying attention."

Marvellous, I think all the accident claim specialists are quaking in their boots at this new development...

I think the point he's trying to make, if we get past all the abuse, is if you don't know a road that well, you shouldn't be riding so fast as you can't get out of trouble, not least trouble related to this kind of static 'obstacle'.

Yes, a council has a care of duty to mark up a road to a sufficent standard... but we also have a responsibility to ourselves, never mind anyone else who happens to be using the same stretch of road, to ride with 'due care and attention'.

If the markings were there then he may never have crashed, it's history now anyway. No point going over the various "what if?" scenarios...

All 3, you mean.

You're forgetting that funny little 4 door saloon that looked like a top-hat.

Sell it, buy something from

and get your mates to trailer it to a race meeting for you when you feel the need for a drive...

I would have to agree - my last big smash was on a leafy forest road in the rain, at night, involving an unmarked corner and a tree...
