"Loves driving, hates garages"

L'petit Citroen BX is going for its MOT test tomorrow.

I'm just mustering some support at the moment. We'll need it.

I think it will fail on the handbrake cable brackets (just behind the wheels), which were broken when I got the car, failed its last MOT on, were subsequently welded and had broken again by the time I got it home.

Who knows what other delights lurk beneath the cool calm collected exterior of a slightly leggy 17 year old hot hatch.

I have managed to secure the secondment of my mother's other car. Hello tidy 306 handling and 1990s refinement, goodbye any sort of power and/or a working stereo.

It'll probably do me good.

Dont worry, my GFs BX sailed through the last 3 MOTs. Even with 3 of its corners bashed in. (Shes not used to this side of the road yet...)

Hey they are smooth and comfortable! She loves her one! Its a 1.9 something estate

Failed. )c,:

No reserve handbrake travel (bullshit IMHO, but not the biggest of my worries) Split CV gaitor (bread and butter) Rear Radius arm bushes (pig of a job)

)c: ^2

The honeymoon is over.

I'm off to fit the stereo from the BX to the 306...

Forgot this bit.

With footbrake applied firmly, work the handbrake up and down several times. On a BX, it will - as if by magic - adjust itself to remove the above problem.

LOL, sounds liek a Saab 900 (early front H/brake model that is what they did)

I know this, the "bullshit" is that it has miles of reserve travel and self adjusting it in the way you describe is such a piece of piss. Never mind, guess I'll just have to do it myself before the next test.

I spoke to the garage you reccomended this morning, the chap I spoke to seemed like a very decent chap. He told me how much it would cost (£130+VAT a side) and when I asked him if it was difficult to do myself he told me all the things to do and things to check and see if they were seized.

Next test? So you're hanging on to it then? Good lad, YKIMS!

Ooh, that's not cheap - but still, known quantity and all that.....
