OT: Redunduncy day

Don't you just hate working in IT and knowing everything :(

Sorry for the number of OT posts, just wondered how many others have been TUPPEE'd? (purposely spelt wrong due to Google groups archiving messages)

As I can see all emails I knew what was happening ages ago, but we were recently bought out by a huge company and today is the day, as I type this their personnel women has just pulled in the car park :)

Only 4 days after being officially made part of the other company, they then come in and tell us they are closing this office, considering the company has run fine for over 100 years without their intervention, we have been sold out by greedy directors :(

Just a moan really about wanker directors lining their pockets for personal gain, oh well back on jobserve looking for another role.....

Had the meeting :) company closing, not bad redundancy though as long as sign an agreement that I don't take them to a tribunal,

Always the way. Just make sure they comply with the law regsrding payment. You are entitled to one weeks pay for each year, and one weeks notice pay for each year, after the first two years employment, minimum.

Anything else like perks, cars, golden handshakes etc is just the icing. They can't take your minimum if you go to tribunal.

They are offering 1 weeks pay for ever year no cap and a 3 months salary tax free if we sign a legal document saying we wont take them to a tribunal when we leave, it also states I have to work till the last day to help them shift the company to the new premises, it's defo blackmail as I will only get the bare min £310 a week and 1 week for every year if I don't sign lol.

I think it works out a 1/4 of what I get if I stay :)

As we are under TUPE and have not really had any consultation, so I will be entitled to 13 weeks compo should I win, which is actually the same as the 3 months pay tax free they are offering now.

Sign agreement

take money

Start proceedings stating that they unfairly blocked you from going to tribunal by offering a financial disincentive for not doing so - constructive dismissal???

Thing is, the Compromise Agreement is a legal binding document that I have to get signed by a solicitor, which is paid for by the company.

I will have to see what my rights are :)

Yes absolutely. Presumably you can pick your own solicitor?

It may be useful to talk to your colleagues, because if you can save money by clubbing together, he or she can spend more time on the case, if you see what I mean. The buyer may be prepared to pay 2 hours per individual, type thing.

Absolutely. Better armed and prepared for it now.
