You were doing something VERY wrong with your front discs !

I had mine done about 18 months ago, and it was a trivial job for my garage. Cost me two hours labour (£60).

IIRC, there are two ways to do it - and the way that involves a press is the wrong way. I also seem to remember that you can just take the whole thing off, pop the bearing out, swap the disc, put it back together, and stick it back on the car.

Takes about a minute.

Unclip the hose from the throttle-body, and move it out the way. Unclip the hose from the side of the airbox (that goes to the turbo). Undo the two metal clips on the side of the airbox, and the top just lifts off.

Well his cost £670, so it wasn't exactly a minter :)

Agreed - TI is very cheap to insure though.

It was a trivial job for my local garage - read my other post. He did warn me that there was a small chance of the wheel bearing(s) dying in the process, but they were fine.

See my reply to Nom, have tried to detail it there. Obviously, you won't be able properly understand it unless you saw it, but I ain't taking it apart again to take pics :) . Should give you a basic idea.

I think if your car is newer, it shouldn't be too bad. Both mine and the one in the scrappy are M-reg's, so are about 10 years old! And both have been sitting idle a lot recently, so things have probably seized up a bit.

Seen it on ebay. But as you describe, there are a few problems which need sorting, so how much do you reckon it would cost to put right (excluding cosmetics as I probably wouldn't bother).

Mine cost about £100 more to do the front brakes than it really should, so it should of cost £1000 instead of £1100. Although that excludes tax and the upcoming MOT. Ahhhh!

It doesn't sound too different to my Triumph fwd - And I can assure you that's a right bastard to do, as you've got to take the driveshaft off complete with the hub, then press the shaft out the hub before you can get the disc off. Of course, you could try popping the upright off the shaft with a puller while it's all on the car, but all you end up with is a bent, buckled, and then popped puller.

Normally I can't wait to play with a new car, but I've had that thing since the end of last year, and still can't bring myself to touch it, that's how bad doing the brakes is on them.

I'd say budget about £50 max for a window regulator out of a scrappie car, could probably get a wing from the same place for up to the same price. Not sure about the thermo sensor but I'd imagine around the 20 quid mark from a dealer. The aircon... no idea.

I've had the best part of a grand from the insurers for the damage (main dealers prices rock) and got a new car already, so I can't be arsed with it basically. I just want it out of the way as it's taking up space at the place where I've got it stored.

Thought everyone already knew, it's a Vectra V6.

Nothing special, just came up at the right price. Cavernous boot (which is what I needed), fully loaded with toys; cruise control, heated leather seats, etc, etc. Not a patch on the Rover speedwise, but it shifts ok when you boot it.

Hmmm.. the cheapest I could find after ringin loads of places was £890, and that's for a 35-yr old with 3 yrs no-claims.. must be due to being in Oxford, I guess.
