Re: ahhh stuck with the BMW :(

You've learned the lesson I learned when I financed a car.

That's that I'll *never* do it again.

If you don't make your own mistakes you'll never really learn anything :-)

Vamp, cancel Sky, get Freeview, you get Dave and E4, what more do you need? Save the pennies - have a look at how much you get a month, how much *has* to go out (such as finance, phone contract) and see what can be pruned (it might suck a bit, but stuff like Sky can go, and you know it deep down). See what you've got left - then set up a Direct Debit to one of those online savings account (no card or anything - all done online, I'm sure you have online banking) to pay in every month the most you can spare, once you've taken off how much you need for petrol, maybe one night out a week extra. Must be a couple of hundred quid? Say it is £250 - in 4 months you'd have a grand, by the end of Feb you'd have 2 grand and you'll have paid 8 months more off the finance, so you can probably settle that then. Then leave your £250 going into the saver account, and add to it whatever the finance was each month (say what, £150) so you'd now be putting £400 a month into your savings account - in ten months (by next Christmas - I know it's not a short term plan...) you'd have 4 grand there and still have the beemer limping along, or you could've flogged the beemer half way through on ebay for probably £1500, add that to the £2k you'd have half way through, chuck £1500 on a diesel 306 (highest spec you can find so at least you're comfy) and £1k a crappy bike to get you going, and £500 on the DAS - and don't fail ;-) So that's June next year you could be on your bike, with a diesel as well :-) You'd have no cash, but you'd have that £400 going into savings still - maybe plus whatever you're saving in fuel using the 306 over the beemer...?

That's my thoughts on it - but I am bored, and sleepy, but too excited to sleep cos I'm leaving for New York in 45 mins... Hmmm... I better go for a shower :-)

You say about getting Dave on freeview...... we're on the Sky freesat type deal (Sky box, Sky did the installation which we paid 75 quid or so for, but no ongoing charges), and we don't get Dave. You sure it's a free channel?

I'm as tight as a Scotsman living in Yorkshire (well...); we don't pay for TV other than the licence fee and we get Dave. Sorted.

I certainly get Dave on Freeview down here.

"L'homme d'AstraVan" gurgled happily, sounding much like they were saying:

It certainly is on FreeView. Dunno about FreeSat, though.

We have freesat twice. Dave isn't on either of them.

You need a less pikey Freeview solution then. :)

We're down in Tywford, we get Freeview and Dave is on 19.

I know it's not a popular point of view in here, but I've already told you how you can walk away from this car entirely legally and with no adverse impact on your credit rating. Whatever you do, don't add the amount by which it's upside down to a new car. That's a very bad move.

Anyway, regarding my method, I've done it before and I know for a fact that it didn't put a solitary adverse mark on my credit profile.

If it's worth less than you owe, GITF now.

Without paying a penny more.

Payne towers is in a known blackspot for telly, due to the forestation around the Big Hoose and the estate in general......

Or not.

Actually it is. My contact at Blackhill told me so. You have an aerial somewhere in the village that works like a repeater, if you ain't in good view of that then you're fecked.

Allegedly.

Twyford, Berkshire, or Twyford of Twyford-Down-where-they-cut-a-big-old-hill-with-an-ancient-monument-on-top-in-half-to-put-in-a-motorway fame?

A channel that used to be called UKG2 somethingorother. General entertainment channel - panel quiz shows, Top Gear (I think) and other random assorted, occasionally quite good, stuff.

Make sure whatever changes you make actually make a difference. Less pub is a good one - you can buy a DVD and have mates round with beer for a night for less money, no need to not socialise. Sky is a bit of a joke but cheaper than a season ticket if you're into sport, otherwise yes lose sky. Look at what you spend - can you get the same stuff cheaper?

As for the car, the best way to save money is keep it, but use it less and drive it slower. It's dull, but I saw over 50mpg out of mine at the weekend. Changing it is unlikely to save real money.

well decided i want sky cos i do watch it a lot and if i'm gonna stay in more i'll want something! but i'm going to downgrade the package, i get movies but to be honest i hardly ever watch the movie channels so thats £17 quid saved, i'll also change my isp to sky i think for £10 a month that saves another 15 quid and i'm going to put my mobile down a package from £25 a month to £15 a month as the free mins and texts i'd get for £15 a month would be fine. so thats another tenner.

it don't sound a lot but that's £42 saved there! my insurance on the car is due in december (great time of year for that to happen!) so i might change that to third party as the car is worth sod all also might ring around for other quotes too.

i've been driving slower and only go out once a week (twice if it's something like a party going on) i've also cut down on the drinking and that saved me £20 this week!

i just feel right pikey at the moment, went to a friends gig last night, ponced a lift and took some of them mini bottles of vodka and just put it in my coke lol although i have been barred for doing that before :)

also i've had a clear out of stuff to ebay so that'll go on there during the week shift some of the old shit :)
