Re: MK5 Golfs

Given the way it performs with less than 400 horsepower, it's scary to think what it would have done if fitted with the original V12 turbo engine.

By comparison the BMW M5 needs 150bhp more, in order to accelerate more slowly and to get to just 203mph, if the driver is lucky.

XJ220 powered by 3/4 of a Rover V8.

To be fair though, the XJ220 is a Supercar, and a fantastic one at that, the M5 is just a Super Saloon heh. I'd have an XJ220 in the 10 car fantasy garage. Next to the F40 would be a nice parking space for it :-p.

When I was a child, the F40 always seemed to be compared to the 959 - there's no contest man, the 959 rips the F40 to bits, in my view! Yeah, OK, the F40 has marginally higher top speed, and very slightly quicker to 60, but the 959 won the Paris Dakar! Ferrari can stick it up their bum for all I care, the Porsche was *the* car for me. Well, actually, in second place behind the XJ220 - always liked that car, I think it still looks better than anything out there.

Dunno what it's dashboard's like though. On either of them.

By contrast the M5 seats four people in comfort and holds their luggage.

I once took the 16V GTi on a very quick trip around twisty lanes, and when I came to a stop the brakes were glowing red hot. Fortunately later cars seemed to have much better brakes.

Oh indeed, and which particular V12 was it and how had it been treated before you bought it?

XJ12 series 2 and it had a major resto after I bought it. Full engine out. And it still was a piece of s*it.

That's umm, rather an old vehicle. I suggest your complaint is really with whoever restored the engine.

Depreciation doesn't even come into account: when I enter a autorised=20 dealer with my NSX or I drive the 928 at Porsche, then I am received as=20 somebody who drives a car they have made and are proud of, their=20 technicians are qualified and the work performed is to the highest=20 standard (their prices are in accordance).

However errors and design faults do occur:my NSX is called in after 8=20 (eight) years of ownership because a fault in the gearbox (with other=20 cars not with mine) was detected. The car entered, I collected it free=20 of charge.

What I refuse to comprehend is that Jaguar finds it normal that one of=20 their top cars, an XKR made and delivered in 2000, serviced at all the=20 intervalls and with 80.000 km on the clocks, develops such an error in=20 an automatic gearbox imposing its replacement and this without any=20 warranty/ factory engagement.

Major promotion for the Jaguar qulity I guess.

Even more stupid is that the Jaguar dealer offers to take the broken=20

2000 XKR in for 15 kUPD but only when the client buys a new XKR for the=20 sweet sum of 100 kUKP...

The driver of a Bentley Turbo R as the driver a an XKR doesn't mind=20 paying money for his car, he knows that there is depreciation but he=20 pays a lot for his car to be top of the notch. They definitely do not=20 like that something paied 5 times the price of a Golf breaks down for no=20 apparent reason after a mileage where the car is to be considered new.

As to the "brilliance" of Jaguar: driven them, old and new (the oldest=20 was a 1935 SS), I am not impressed by the ride quality or general=20 superiority of the modern ones. I was shocked when I first drove my=20 uncle's all new XJ: overall finish and integration of things like=20 cellphone, parking sensors etc where at "lada"-level.

My friend (the one with the XKR) has several Jaguars in the family. His=20 father recently bought a S-type in replacement of his Cadillac. He=20 refers to the S as "de rammelkar" translated " a car that rattles"...=20 and rattling it does. He sorly regrets his Cadillac.

Don't push the envelope about dull Honda's, brilliant Jag's, all liquid=20 loosing TVR's, granddad's Subaru's. Been there, driven most of them:=20 some are nice, some are boring, some are hyped up, none are "s**te". All=20 beat walking.

Actually on the case of "s**te": I have (soon to be: had) a technician=20 who qualified his company car as "s**te". He nows comes by bike or 50cc- moped and has experience first hand that the rain makes one wet.

Well, when I went to a Jaguar dealer with a fault on a ten year old Jaguar it was fixed free of charge. When I went to a Jaguar dealer with a minor complain about a new Jaguar it was fixed FOC. When that same Jaguar was five years old a recall fault was fixed FOC.

One suspects that few manufacturers would replace a gearbox on a seven year old car FOC without a payment being made. My Mercedes offers free parts on such a replacement, but not FOC.

And indeed it's likely that the gearbox in question was a Mercedes five speed.

What you are actually saying about expectign a repalcement (gearbox or car?) on a seven year old car is pure bollocks and I suspect that Jaguar don't give a f*ck what you think about them since you're unlikely to ever buy one.

Indeed I find a tale that you have a friend to poor to afford to repair a car he owns quite amsuing.

What you suspect is the least of my worries.

Wanna bet about buying Jaguars? The other "Steven" has allready wet his pants trying to bragg. I could post some pictures, for a modest sum of course. I do not bet for nothing...

My friend - owns a building company- has 150 people working for him.

I wouldn't qualify him as poor: if you would ever gain in your entire life what his house costs, you will earn a very decent monthly pay.

You really like pissing contests which strikes me as odd: you with your inward growing penis are a unlikely competitors but then if it is you desire to compete, who am I to question?

Mayby you like the feeling piss finding its way from the crotch via the legs into your shoes. There exist things called Pampers, you know...

Tom De Moor

You're the last person here who should criticise others for bragging.

No, If I wanted to bet I would have said "I bet" or something similar. Nor have a I said that you can't afford to buy a Jaguar, indeed with prices starting at £50 or so you'd have to be someoen reduced to rolling in the gutter drinking Brasso to be unable to afford a Jaguar. What I have said is that you are unlikely to buy one, based on your stupid rants here in which you express your hatred for Jaguars.

If you're the sort of thick f*ck who buys cars he hates then I pity you.

I don't know what's funniest, your English or you ego.

Aww bless, must be nearly bankrupt then. Both builders and farmers always rant on about how poor they are.

Oh dear, trying to make yourself look good by association? And excuse me while I laugh at the concept of a Belgian house being expensive, you really don't have a clue about property prices in the UK, do you?

I see you're getting off on this one, I'll leave you to one of your typical Belgian fantasies. What is it about your country and urine?

And worse come to that, Belgium, the only country I've been to where the locals seemed to think it was OK to crap on their own monuments.

In news: snipped-for-privacy@news.telenet.be, Tom De Moor wittered on forthwith;

I've had that with Mercedes, BMW, VW and others at different times. It's not unusual.

XKR uses a Mercedes autobox.

for

£15k is about market value of a 2000 XKR. I think that's more than fair as a dead one is worth less.

Golf owners don't like breakdowns either.

I have to disagree totally with your comments about the new XJ.

I'd deeply regret a Cadillac as well. Especially an STS.

Almost everything beats walking - Alfa 33s excluded. I do think most Hondas are dull though. I despise Honda interiors because they're flair and imagination free, basically just there to fill the space. Jag interiors have a lovely ambience and are nice places to be. I prefer an interior that isn't completely injection moulded.

Good man.
