How much are we expecting this fine to actually be? There should be a website where people can report their fines and offences, so that we can see how widely they vary for the same offence.

Umm there already is, I can't recall which website it is though. The variation is huge, and apparently at whim. Some people get off what others get banned for.

Yeah, although this is kind of misleading. E.g. "the police decide your fine" is wrong, it is the magistrates court who sets the penalty.

And they decide the penalty on the basis of a lot of factors, including the wealth or circumstances of the driver and whether there were consequences, or if other people were put in danger, etc, so it's not really a table of speed versus fine.

There are probably guidelines, I dunno if those are on the web somewhere... Let's 'ave a google... No, can't find anything concrete. Maybe it is left to the common sense of actual magistrates, which would be good so long as they have common sense, which they do seem to.

mate of mine got fined nealy a grand for doing 125 in a 70 oh and It was a 6 month ban as well oh and a load of points! (i think)
