Strange boy racer observation

So if you don't get caught on motorways, and you're least likely to get caught on B roads, are you gonna tell us where we do get caught ;)?

Of course, getting the Ka past the legal limit on a motorway is rare and nigh on impossible anyway, so Noms theory shouldn't interfere with you :)

Well there are PLENTY ! I don't think I've *ever* made a motorway journey without seeing at least one motorway copper on the trip.

Exactly the point of my post. You can speed all you like on narrow country lanes, but if you do it regularly on a nice safe, straight, wide motorway, you WILL be busted eventually.

There are actual traffic police on the motorway. About the only time you ever see them. On a B road they generally don't bother with mobile cameras (no pavement or bus lane to park it on) and GATSOs are pretty rare. And the police aren't obliged to patrol them.

It's easier if you turn the air conditioning off :P.

I've done ~300,000 miles on motorways in the last 8 years - usually around the 98th percentile speed. I've been stopped once.

If you maintain good forward and rear observation (one example - use the nearside door mirror to check every on slip road as you go past - seems a favourite hiding spot on the A1(M)), keep good lane discipline and know what to look for in an unmarked car then there's very little chance of getting stopped.

IMO, anyone that is stopped by a marked car on a motorway is guilty of careless driving.

More people get caught on Gatso cameras than anything else, and there are very few stretches of motorway that have gatsos.

Exactly my point. You don't need to do that on a "normal" road, as the chances of meeting a Police car are slim-to-none.

On the M25 on a Friday night, this is around 7mph.

On the M40 J4 - J10 on a weekday afternoon, it's around 115.

The greatest amount of speeding penalties come from fixed cameras on non-motorway roads. The probability of a motorist being caught speeding is greater when they are not on the motorway.

Individual cases are obviously going to differ, if somebody always slows for gatsos or they only drive on motorways, then their specific case would lead to a higher probability of capture on motorways.

However, your original statement was "Probably because the odds of getting busted on a Motorway, are very high."

For a sweeping statement of that magnitude you can only go by statistics of capture across all motorists, which tell us that the probabilty of capture on motorways is low.

My point being, that you can't make a 60-mile trip on a motorway, without seeing at least one traffic car. This is the complete opposite to non-motorway roads !

So if your doing 140 by the time you are able to see back up the slip road you've just passed you'll already have the marked car on it's way to pull you over.... ;-)
