I found that to be the most worrying noise, and its also VERY audible from outside the car...

Thats not true! I never said it was knackered, it was alright when i had it, stupid understeer in the wet, but the tyres were about £2.50 each. You said it had crazy oversteer and sideways tendancies, which i only managed to provoke on roundabouts on purpose :)

Haven't heard it in the flesh, but it reads like a pretty a cool noise.
