VXR Astra mini review

not that quick really. not bad inside, liked the half leather didn't like the shiny plastic dash and thought the VXR stamped on the dials looked a bit pikey. i did however like the blue colour it was in. was a bit like the zafira GSi blue and might of actually been the same blue thinking bout it.

ti drive ok when driving normally but you can't put the power down cos even in second as soon as that turbo kicks in the thing spins the tyres! wanky FWD for you i guess. i was a bit gutted really cos i love the way it looks. for a vauxhall it looks pretty good and i love the HUGE alloys too. it understeered a bit but not as bad as i thought, but it was just so annoying trying to get that power down. if you keep the revs high on boost then the wheels spin for freaking ages!

it didn't feel quick either i guess cos it can't get the power down and there's very little low down torque.

i'd sooner take my 1993 MR2 Turbo back than have a brand new astra VXR.

ah well maybe one day i can blag a monaro :)

It is, Arden Blue.

Agreed, although, once you get into 3rd gear, they do GLF. Although again, from reading a little of the Astra Sport forums, they never make the full

240bhp on the dyno. My Clio can pull away from a local one coming off roundabouts - which is nice :-)

I've passengered in a Monaro VXR. They don't feel that fast, then you glance at the speedo and realise you're doing 150mph...

surely it has traction traction control? I have the same prob with high power RWD vehicles, a little bit more entertaining though.....

yeah but vauxhall traction control is shit...

my BM's traction control is well good, it shifts like it has AWD from a standing start! feels loads quicker than the VXR and it isn't stat wise

I still love mine 1 year in. Coming off roundabouts or out of junctions with your foot down is a pain in the arse but in a straight line you can keep up with any of the other hot hatches except perhaps a 130i.

Anyway I want to buy a microlight so it's getting sold for a cheaper smart roadster brabus.

Vauxhall were a bit pikey with the spec, from what I have been told by Vauxhall tuners they are pushing the turbo quite hard so there isn't much leeway for extra power from a remap and they could have really made it a flyer and kept the price low compared to the competition:

you say that but we had one in the other week that some rich guy uses for track days.was having the breaks replaced as they got a bit 'WARM' ie. they actually got white hot and turned the nice blue calipers black! and warped the discs.

he's had his chipped and the boost up and is running 300bhp now. the suspension has been tweaked too. and the alloys were changed for lighter ones too. never got to drive it but it sounded nice.
