69 front speakers.Where to place them / max size etc ???

I'm going to put some speakers in the front doors on my 69fb,and I wanted to find out if anyone knows the max depth/diameter speaker i can get in the doors, and where to locate them best to get as much clearance from the wondow mechanism and other stuff in the door.It seems that wherever i put them, they would get in the way of something or other. Has anyone here tried it before ? For the rears i'm making a board to fit into the trap door opening, instead of cutting holes in the side panels(which would sound crap anyway) or cut holes in the trap door itself. But I need ideas for the front. Thanks Andrew

I believe there will be a clearance problem with any decent (i.e., large magnet) speaker. What the installer did to get a Diamond Audio setup (separate tweeter and midrange) to fit in my '70 Cougar was to fabricate a build-out from 1-inch particle board. He put a 45 degree bevel on all the edges of the board and covered it with some color-matching Naugahyde I got from a Cougar parts store. Unfortunately he made the board to cover up the window crank hole, so I had to go to power windows too. Very expensive all-in-all. But it looks "factory" and sounds real good.

I know that there are a few pre cut holes in the door, which are obviously hidden when the panel is installed,so some kind of spacer to bring the speaker out a bit further so the magnet clears any mechanisms sounds like it could do with a bit of investigating. Its a bit of a catch 22 situation,i cant buy the speakers until i know what will fit,but then i dont know if they will fit until i buy them !!

On another subject, can someone advise me on the pros and cons of stroker conversion.Apart from less gas mileage ! Engine is 351w with Holley 4 barrel carb Edelbrock intake

Don't get me wrong,I dont intend to hack up any 'original parts' I had to get repro door panels anyway, because the old ones were shot. They are easy to get so making holes in those is not a problem if i decide to replace them again in future. For the rears I'm going to leave out the trapdoor, because i'm not cutting that up,and I'll make a panel to fit in that hole, which i can then mount speakers to,and have them facing forward

And thanks Cory for your input on the Stroker, any idea what it would cost, roughly?

Glad to hear you aren't butchering the original parts, though it stinks that the door panels are shot. Good luck with your re-pop parts, hope you get a quality part.

Check out this link for a review of a 427 stroker and to get an idea of the machine work required.

Here is a link to a site that sells stroker kits... You can get an idea of the price of each size stroker. As always, you would be best to shop around before buying for best quality and price. This is just what came up first on google when I searched.
