89 5.0 tires

Have 89 5.0 with stock rims. Need 225/60/15 tires. Haven't replaced recently and that size is getting a little hard to find. Looking for H rated in 60-90 dollar range. What in group member's experience are decent tires available now. Last ones I got were Michelin Pilots but currently Costco will only put V rated tires on 5.0 mustangs and I really don't want to spend $150/tire. Thanks Howard

A search at Tire Rack yielded a good assortment of H rated at a reasonable price...

And as for the V rated there are some in your price range...

On my car I'm running the Dunlop SP Sports 225 / 60/ 15 on the front and

255 /60/ 15 on the rear although I have non matching ( Weld Draglites ) rim sizes front and back. The price for these is reasonable and I get good wet / dry performance from them and as far as wear, they are lasting fairly well as long as I can refrain from any impromptu burnouts.

I'm sure you can find someone other than Costco to mount them for you.

Oh and in case you were wondering, This is on an 88 GT Drop top some performance modifications and nitrous injected with 3.73 gears. and the tires still last.

Try the Dayton Daytona SR Radials. About $65.

I just got a set of 15 inch for 93 5.0 V rating

BFGoodrich gForce Sport

225/60R15 96V

Excellent summer tires, really grip the road, I think they were $85, same class as the KDW tires many 5.0's have on them with 16 inch rims.

Discount tires has them or can order them.

The factory specified V rated tires, so most reputable shops won't mount anything with a lower rating for you. In my experience, you'll notice a significant change in handling if you switch. Try to stay with V rated tires if you can.

I just checked the owners manual and you are correct. The car came with Goodyear V rated tires. When they wore out at about 15000 miles I replaced them with H rated Michelins and have used H rated tires since. The car has less than 100K miles and the set of tires I purchase now will be the 4th for the car. As a side point I do know that the CHP used H rated tires (off brand) when the 5.0 liter mustang was their primary pursuit car in the late

80s and early 90s.

Want to thank everyone for their suggestions. Dayton tires are not readily available where I live (coastal california) and tire rack reccomended installers in my area want about $22/tire for mount and balance. With shipping any price advantage of Tire Rack disappears. They do have a great selection. I have ordered Kumho ASX V rated tires through Sears. They will take about a week to arrive and I will see how they work out. Michelins would have been 2.3 and Comp T/A 1.7 times as much cost.
