I got the Potenzas, and I love 'em in the rain. I'm going to get another set at my next service (95K car, 50K on the Potenzas).

I just read it again... and now I recall that as one of the greatest collection of ignorance and misinformation ever posted on here.

Let me summarize the REAL facts:

1. Firestone has nothing to do with it... been a fact of life for decades that some firestone plants put out substandard tires that no one in their right mind would buy. While other plants have been reset in the Bridgestone model. And Bridgestone has a good rep.
2. Everyone seems to like Gatorbacks for track use... but I bet most are like me and feel like - after 15,000 or so - that's ALL they are good for.

- Meaning, when someone asks about what tires to buy for their street/pleasure car, leave Gatorbacks the hell out of the discussion

My PERSONAL view:

Yokohama may make good performance tires, but having bought a couple sets of their Avid touring.. I am no longer a fan.

There's nothing wrong with their tread or traction or wear paradigms; but out of 6 bought, 5 developed internal breaks rendering them undrivable or uncomfortable to drive long before their tread reached 50% wear.

However, as said, that is their touring brand and I have a sneaky suspicion that they WERE originally built better but as they became more popular their QC was modified to increace productivity.

That wont be the first or last time that's happened... so maybe the BEST thing to look for is a high test-rated NEW model or offering,,, get 'em before they dumb 'em down.

I love my Potenza'a to death. There are others I would by, but I will walk to work for a week to save gas money to buy a set.

We get rain, snow, sleet, and nasty oily roads. I have been very happy.

Hey thanks all for the input - I'll keep watching this thread for a while - I've got about 2 weeks before I can afford to order the tires anyhow (unless the tire blows on I75 again)...

Absoluting nothing wrong with my Firestone SZ50's that I've run on my Vette for years. Way better then the stock Goodyears. Even picked up damn near 2 mpg with them.

I'm also in the market for new tires. Unstated in this discussion is the tire performance category. Are we talking Ultra High Performance, High Performance, Premium Touring, etc. My interest is in the Ultra High Performance category. Currently have Kumho ECSTA Supra 712's. They have about 20k miles. If I hadn't had an alignment issue they probably would be good for another 5k miles. I've been pleased with them but would like to hear back from any who have experience with Fuzion ZRi's. Size I'm looking at is 255/45-17.
