Better yet.. My son who is a NASA (etc.) driving instructor took the GT out on the IRP road course at speed for a few laps. He has driven better cars, but was impressed.

That's not the reason for the name change. The new GT would have been called the GT40, but someone else (not Ford) owns the rights to the GT40 moniker.

That is extremely rare since Ford doesn't have a NEW GT40 !!

All fun aside, it's not that rare. A couple months ago I got invited to testdrive the new Ford 500/freestyle/F350's on a track. When I Was there they had a Ford GT sitting in their showroom. It was marked off and I told the guy guarding it that that probably meant no-one was to sit in it. He promptly opened the door to the GT for me and let me sit in it. I am 6-4 tall and I even fit in ! amazing. Love the view to the engine thru the back window.
