How to turn off "theft" light in 99 Mustang?

Coupla nights ago, I accidentally pressed the panic button on the factory remote. In the ensuing panic to turn the horn off before it awakened all my neighbors, I must've done something to screw things up. I can start and drive the car ok but the remore no longer works and a red 'theft' light flashes every few seconds on the instrument panel.

Any ideas how to turn off this light and get the remote working again? Thanks in advance.

Not being a smartass, but did you check the owners manual? It should cover this.

Checked it and it basically said to go to a qualified mechanic, which I suppose I'll do if I don't get the solution here.

I'd try disconnecting the ground battery cable for 20~25 mins to reset the computer. See if that helps.

Look under your dash and see if there is a little black box with a red button on it. It should be on the drivers side on the left. Prolly kind of tucked up in a bit. If you DO see one, try pressing the red button on it.

Another thing, sometimes you can press the little red light.... I am of course recalling the Ford security system from my GT, your mileage may differ.

wow, that's weird. You shouldn't even be able to start the engine when the passive alarm system is activated. MY guess is it is confused. Pull the battery for a while.

Disconnected the battery cable for 40 minutes but no change when I reconnected it. Also couldn't find the button Kate suggested. Thanks for the suggestions but looks like I'll be taking it to the shop.

And if that doesn't work, for $100 bucks I can install a little blue button to get you back down...

That sounds familliar. If I remember correctly it's from a cartoon episode where somebody(Elmer Fudd?)upgrades his house to the "house of the future".
