I need a hug :(

Driving to work on the freeway this morning the Mustang, when out of nowhere comes this... thing. Looked like a two foot square piece of dirty aluminum foil, maybe a heat shield or something dropped off some old junker. It hit the front driver's side corner and went... who knows where. There was no one to my left so it probably wound up next to the center divider. It happened so fast the nerve impulses to take evasive action were still traveling through my system.

No dents or major body damage, but deep scratches, some to the metal, all around and about the front corner of the car. On the bumper, the leading edge of the hood, the window over the headlight and even a couple on the side panel. It could not have been a worse shape hitting at a worse angle to damage more parts if you tried.

So, email into Insurance lady and I guess going for estimates the rest of the week. This is going to be expensive. :( Replace the headlight assembly and probably paint the hood, bumper and side panel. I forget what my deductable is.

Yeah, it's a Monday.

And now, I must swear. Fuck!

Be very careful about filing a claim for this. The insurance company will probably classify this as your fault. They will pay for the damage, and you pay the deductible. Then they'll raise your rates for a few years. $1,000 in damage ends up costing you $1500 with a 50% profit to the insurance company. Been there, done that, learned the hard way.

Heh... prolly a heat shield off a rusty 84 Camabird with an Earnhardt sticker on the rear window. Those bastards!

Guy at work suggested it was a Mini Cooper. :)

Well... they've been good to me so far. We'll see. This could be a lot more than $1000 if they have to pull three large parts off and repaint.

I could always switch to Geico right after. ;-)

Keep this in mind. Someone else always has it worse off. My father just had a triple bypass this afternoon. This should be a fun week at the hospital. Be glad its just a hunk of metal that is scrapped up.

Oh man, that bites! BUT!~ It should be covered by your Comprehensive coverage! With luck you carry a low deductible on it.... and it will be ok!

So sorry to hear about your bad luck.

My experience with things like this, rocks and windshields, rocks and fenders from a gravel truck, it has always been a no brainer on my comp, and no increase in premiums. It was a road hazard, not your fault. Nothing you could do ao avoid it.

My condolences and best wishes.

Been there, done that with my father, and then my turn. A 4 way for me (3 for him), 5 years apart.

It's amazing the improvements made in those 5 years. And a friend had his the year after me and they didn't even have to crack his chest (if all the repairs are on the front side). I was in and out of the hospital in 3 days. Dad was a 5 day stay, and a month of recovery. My friend was out in 1.5 days and back to work in 2 weeks.

My insurance lady actually knows me well. I'm not too concerned. It's just such a pain in the ass. And with a four month old car, there's still the "eff you, universe!" reaction.

I know. I just figgered folks might be bemused by the whole thing.

Still. Damn. Four months new. (shakes fist at sky)

Yep... lucky for you, perhaps, that it was totally unexpected.

Look what often happens to fools who swerve for small animals!

St Peter:

"Sorry Joe, you're gonna have to do some penance in the waiting room for a few thousand years"

"But.. but.. I just swerved to miss that squirrel"

"Yeah, sure! I just KNOW your wife and kids appreciate that."

"But that squirrel is one of God's creatures!"

"Why do you say that... Didnt you SEE that TV commercial? That's why the penance... you might call it our 'Dumbass Detention'"
