ignition trouble

I have a 65' coupe which just underwent an entire engine rebuild, and a transmission swap. The car starts perfectly when it has been off for anywhere from two hours or more, but if I just park it for a few minutes and try to start it, it takes about 5 tries to start. The engine heat is within normal limits and with the engine rebuild, I had an MSD ignition put in. Does anyone know what might be causing this?

Fuel problem, maybe a vapor lock? Piece of dirt in the carb? Just a few guesses..

That's a symptom of misadjusted carb float level (too high).

If it starts quicker when you floor the accel while cranking, that would pretty much prove it out.

If you pull the air cleaner about 5 minutes after parking it, and get strong gas smell.. that also points out the float level problem.

Could also be misadjusted choke.
