Making an '89 look like an '86?

Jul 08, 2007 3 Replies

I just picked up an '89 5.0 LX for a song, appears to be in pretty good condition for the mileage. I wanted an '89 through '93 model for the fuel injection system, so I'm happy with the purchase.

Thing is, I *really* like the front end from the '84-'86 models. I just think the four square headlights look a ton cooler than those silly rounded things from '87 forward.

So here's my question... How much work is there in putting the four-eyed front end on the '89? Is it just the front fascia or do I need fenders as well?

Any comments or suggestions welcome.

TC

This is a first usually I see people swapping the 4 eyes for the 87-93 style. The change shouldn't be to difficult to do. You do not need to change the fenders they are the same however the hood will need to be changed.

Heh, yeah, I've heard of folks going from the four eyes to the rounded newer ones. I guess I'm just nostalgic.

How about wiring? Anything I need to be aware of there?

Thanks a bunch! TC

I did the same thing with a 70 Mach I I had when I was 20 (long, long time ago... :-) ).. I liked the front end of the 1969 Machs.. and preferred the rear of the 70s...
