Hello... I just bought an extra PATS key for my `03 Stang at the dealer... the dealer cut the key too... all for $25. Seems reasonable being that it was from the dealer. I got the key home and went to program it according to the instructions in the owners manual, but after about 6 separate tries, I was unsuccessful. I have my two original keys... I followed the instructions perfectly as far as I can tell. I am just wondering if I may have made some type of "common error", or if there are perhaps any tips or tricks to increase the success rate of this procedure.
One thing I will note... right after the key was cut and BEFORE anyone attempted to program it, the guy at the dealer took the key out to my car and tried it in the door to make sure the cut was ok. He then tried it in the ignition and cranked the engine... the engine did crank but did not start. He then gave me the key and ran inside. A moment later he runs out and says "hey, don't try to start the car again with that new key until it is programmed!". I guess he had forgotten about the programming part when he cranked my engine over with it. So... I am wondering if he may have screwed up the key itself by cranking the engine before it was programmed. ??? The car did start fine with my original key and I drove home.
I would prefer to get this key coded on my own if possible since it is a hassle for me to get back to the dealer... so before I make the trek back there, any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
