Removing 5.0 emblems?

Feb 13, 2006 5 Replies

One of the emblembs was "missing" from my '88 5.0 when I got it. There is no apparent paint damage but there is some hard black residue probably from the adhesive from the emblem.

I would prefer to just remove that residue and and also remove the emblem from the other side and have none. Any ideas what the best paint friendly thing to use to remove the black residue?

And also, whats the best way to remove the emblem that is still on the car?

Worst case some paint comes off and I just put the 5.0 back on and have 5.0 emblems.

Thanks,

Something like goo-gone is safe for painted surfaces?

I always use good old fashioned Lighter Fluid. Even paint thinner aka mineral spirits will work DO NOT USE LACQUER THINNER but lighter fluid dissolves it nicely with absolutely no harm to surrounding surfaces. Use a paper towel or a good terry cloth rag to rub it as it softens.

try wd-40 and a cotton rag,it should get it off without damaging the paint.
