The Old Bill S

Can someone give me a quick rundown of what happen to the old Bill "Yours in Ford" S. Before I get labelled a troll, check Google groups

-- still have the same V6). I was browsing google and came across a post that seems like his farewell speech and he mentioned something about a web site that was copying this groups messages. It's a shame to lose him, he was an excellent resource. Thanks for any help, and I wish Bill well wherever he is. ~Nick

I think it was HorsePowered .com that was doing it. He got a bunch of grief and decided he'd had enough. He's over on the BB Ford and Merc Newsgroup occasionally. StuK

I think I remember your name... Welcome back.

Yeah, it was either horsepowered.com or autoforumz.com (I don't remember which off the top of my head) that was using a USENET feed to bolster their "post count" and make them more attractive to prospective advertisers. Also, they were censoring and/or altering posts. Pretty despicable stuff.

If you ever want to ask him a question, he still hangs out in the big-block group (alt.hi-po.big-block-ford-mercury).

Wow. I'm sure that we're all amazed and delighted at your brilliant display of literary eloquence.

When it comes to knowledge about the subject of this group in which we choose to participate, there are but a very few out there that are better equipped than Bill S. Occasionally his posts may have come across as somewhat terse but he clearly was one of the best sources for info and tech that this board has ever had. If we're lucky he'll see his way clear to contribute here once again.

Thanks to those who responded constructively, it's definitely a shame to lose a resource like Bill but at least he's doing alright (I got a little worried when I saw some post with the words, "our departed Bill S").

I guess any type of response could muster up some fools and rekindle some memories of a good person all at the same time. One thing I will never profess to be is knowledgeable about cars. I know just enough to be dangerous. I am glad to hear about all the knowledge the other Bill S shared with this group and that he was a well respected individual. I will not be here very often, just had an issue with my engine and knew there were a great bunch of folks monitoring this newsgroup that are willing to share their knowledge. I can respect any person who would take time to share knowledge for free. Most folks these days are in it for the money.

If anyone needs help with computers and software I am willing to share my knowledge wit the folks in this group. Just drop me an e-mail I will offer whatever knowledge I have.

For those who do not have anything nice to say about the other Bill S just STFU (Shut The Fuck Up) and go about your pathetic little lives.

It's prolly a good idea to keep it that way... Some of us in here would be confused by the nick, too close to the same and a whole nother guy.

After you are probabaly AN original Bill S, but not OUR original Bill S.

I should have prefaced my original post by stating that I didn't mean to offend you and wouldn't expect you to change your screen name. I was still following this group when you first started posting and even remember the thread you referred to earlier when someone asked you to change your handle. I was a bit confused when I started lurking again the other day, and just wanted this issue clarified.

Sounds about right. But what does that have to do with him being a dick?

Yeah, can you help: I'm looking to build a filter add-on for my newsreader that automatically converts dumbass bold fonts posted in html to fixed width acscii. Please forward any comments by email.

So, let me get this straight, you don't know him, and have only recently been made aware of him, but you take offense to unfavourable comments about him? Just so I have straight, that's all.

Simple. If you don't act like a dumbass, he won't act like a dick, and then everyone benefits from his wealth of knowledge.

Dude... and while I mean no disrespect to anybody... offering to write a program in VB.net is not exactly something "difficult" to do. Pretty weak flame. Btw, cut out the damn HTML already.

You've jumped to two conclusions: 1. He isn't just inherently a dick. 2. You aren't enjoying his wealth of knowledge for anything other than a pissing contest with some idiot with a web site Bill didn't like.
