I have 1987 300XZ. my gas gauge is working fine but it show that I have about 6.5 gal? basically it take about 6.5 gal of fuel to top up the tank from "E" how could that be? Any ideal? How big is my gas tank? gas gauge problem? It seem to work fine to me.

thx for your help

try zhome.com for answer about tank capacity. my guess would be 12-14 gallons. your in tank sender unit may be defective. you ought to be able to find a replacement at zcarparts.com or

good luck

Fuel sending unit is defective. See owners manual but it's at least 15 gal, I believe they are 18?

buy a clymer, haynes, or chilton shop manual and look it up. you can find these books in any auto parts store such as kragan, chief, autozone, napa... I would be surprised if you did not have to drop the tank from the car to access it.

Yes, remove the plate in the trunk area and you can pull the sender out. You do have to remove the tank to replace the fuel pump but you aren't doing that! :-) Probably a dealer only item and they fail regularly so I wouldn't suggest a used one.

Ignore the sugestion to buy a "haynes" manual, they are full of misinformation.
