Recently, I have been having a series of issues with me 1988 300ZX Turbo. I am not too sure if they are all related or not. I also understand that I will eventually have to take my car to a mechanic and that there is only so much a newsgroup can do, but I am broke and desperate. Here it is:
Recently, my car (Automatic Tranny) has had a bad idle problem. It drops to
500 and shakes left and right, then the idle picks back up to 750 (give or take a few revvs). It has progressivly become worse over the course of a week. Also in the morning, my transmission will not switch out of 1st until it warms up. Once it is warm, no problem. It takes a while though. Sometimes it just goes into neuteral and back into gear again (only when cold). Now, today the worst happened. I was driving along at around 50 MPH. All was going good and I decided to give it some juice. I manually shifted into 2nd (because I am an ass) and gunned it. I heard a huge 'pop' sound and my car lost 99 percent of its power. I nursed it home going at about 25 mph. Whenever I put my foot down to where the turbo is about to engage, it has a 'drowning' type noise and dies. It starts without issue still. It did die a few times and I had to restart it, but it started up fine. At the exact moment my car made the noise, my check engine light came on. There was no hesitation between the time the light went on and the popping noise came about.
By any chance, do all of these symptoms point to a certain direction? There is no smoke out the back and no funny smells. I checked what I was able to and did not see anything disconnected (hoeses etc), but it was only the top part of the motor I checked out. When I start the car, leave it in park, I try and rev it. The motor revvs a little bit, but once I try and give it more gas, it revs to approx 1700 revvs and back down repeatedly.
Any type of help is greatly appreciated. I feel pretty worried and am praying that this is minor.
