2001 Pathfinder SE antenna problems

Hello,

I took my 2001 Pathfinder SE in to the dealer for some body repair work which included removing the right fender. In the process of removing the right fender they broke the fixed antenna so they replaced it with a new one. Naturally, when I got the car back the radio reception is horrendous. I assumed they simply forgot to plug in the new antenna to the outlet receiver, but when I checked behind the plastic cover under the passenger footwell the connection is fine. The dealer claims the problem must be due to a crack I have in the windshield which bisects the secondary antenna in the windshield, but I've had that for 18 months with no detrimental effects to my reception. And the fact that I had fine reception when I drove the car into the dealer and no reception when I drove it away makes it pretty obvious to me that the problem is related to the new antenna and/or installation.

Other than simply failing to plug in the antenna what could be done wrong in an antenna installation? Could it not be grounded properly? Could it simply be a bad antenna?

Thanks for any assistance, Kyle

The radio has good sensitivity with just the fender antenna so I think their excuse is lame. It's obviously not installed correctly or defective.
