2001 Sentra Syn trans oil ?

Aug 14, 2007 1 Replies

The Sentra is getting close to 60K and I thinking about changing the (auto) transmission oil and filter. I have read somewhere that people are now using synthetic transmission fluid. I when to a local auto parts store and sure enough they are selling synthetic fluid. So I am looking for input from those who know more about it then me. I am not sure even what type is compatible with my Sentra. Thanks PS: I am not sure if I will end up using syn since transmission is closed system and as a matter of routine I will probley replace fluid and filter at recommended intervals. Another question is why do I always seem to here that people should get a transmission flase.

Unless you drive your Sentra like a New York City taxi with the constant 24 hour stop-and-go, stay stuck in traffic all the time scenarios, don't bother. Or, do you tow heavy (for the Sentra) loads often? If not, just change your fluid regularly.

Also, if it's a closed system, chances are you won't be able to change the filter, because you won't really need to.
