I noticed my 95 Maxima SC sounded a bit louder than usual, under the hood it sounds as if the exhaust manifold near the firewall is leaking, it also smells like exhaust under the hood.
Question: Could there be something else which is causing the loudness? If so what should I look for? If it is the exhaust manifold what type of cost am I looking at to repair it? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm responsible for the maintenance on girlfriend's '96 I30t. Finally had some exhaust problems last year with the original system. The only large component that needed replacement was the y-pipe that comes off the motor (plus a hanger here and there). So, my point is that perhaps your y-pipe is bad. If so, be prepared for pain; They cost nearly $700.
