Tires for 2005 XTerra

My buddy is shopping for new tires for his 2005 XTerra, 6 cyl. M/T. He has 265/70 16R Long Trails on it now, which are about done.

Located in rural Upstate NY, so snow/unplowed roads are likely. No real offroad driving is involved.

Apologies if this is rather vague, but welcome hints, tips or advice.

I use Goodyear Wranglers on my 97 PU 4x4 in upstate NY (or Downstate, however you call it). Mine are 235/75/15 Never got stuck, even in 8" of unplowed roads.

I'm always so amazed at how quickly people go through tires. How many miles are you people putting on each year? I bought cheap Canadian Tire brand A/T tires 4 years ago for my 95 Pathfinder (31x10.5x15). They still look almost brand new despite putting on nearly 90,000kms. I'll get another 3 or 4 years out of them if I keep the truck. And they've been excellent tires for the price I paid.

In the past, the only tires I ever went through quickly were Z rated low profile tires on my Talon. These were so soft and sticky, and I drove really hard! They only lasted about 20,000kms. I would call that extreme. But truck tires should last a lot longer than 2 years!

He's put about 40-50 thousand miles on these.
