04 Max Rewire Cornering Lamps To Work Foglamps

If I rewire my cornering lamps to work with my foglamps would that cause a heat or electrical problem I will be using the standard 27watt cornering bulb and the rewire will take place in the IPDM electric module. Just don't know about the wire or the housing holding up to 3+ hour nite drive? Any help would be great. Thanks jdc1203

Having worked in the world of high technology, in a manufacturing role, and having had continual contact with designers, I have an opinion on this.

Typically, if the design has been to support intermittent use, then it's a fairly safe consideration to regard anything but intermittent use as not part of the design. Having said that, what you could do is to set up a test with a thermometer and leave the light on for 15 minutes and see what the temperature rise is.

My considered opinion would be that this is not a good idea.

Why would you want to do this, just cool looks?

I wouldn't want to do that just for looks.. you'd probably be breaking some regulations anyway, aside from melting the housing.

In my case (5th gen) I no longer have the cornering lamps my 93SE did and really miss them. I've occasionally thought about how I could rewire existing or add additional cornering lamps somehow but the ideas come up short.

Those who drive around dark streets and corners at night know the value of cornering lamps.. in addition to seeing the curb and the street, you might even miss a pedestrian or two ;)

Consider yourself lucky if your 04 has them!! Pat

This is an old mod on 4th gens.

I'm not sure how the new Maxima's switching system works, but if you can look under your hood and see a relay for fog lamps, and a relay for corner lamps, then this will work. Just take the 12v+ out powering the fog lights, splice into it, run a wire (one wire) to the 12v+ switch on the corner relay, cut the original line off the switched terminal and cap it off so it can't ground out on any metal close by.

Then just splice the 12v out from the fog relay, to the 12v in switch terminal on the corner relay. Whatever you do, don't run 2 bulbs off one wire, Nissan didn't design it that way, and uses relays for a reason.

Use lower wattage bulbs, or even the newer LED bulbs, which are much brighter, but run with virtually no heat...

The reason for this is just a cosmetic issue. I miss the lower fog lamp look that was on my 01 & 99 Max's. The headlamp system on the 04 Max is the best yet as far as brightness.
