The car is a 93 max GXE. I've had the transmission rebuilt twice. The first company never got it right, the second has come pretty close, but I still have two problems they can't seem to figure out. The one that worries me is... When driving, I get up to 60 or so, and coast down to about 50 (mph), and the engine lulls up and down, (the tach bounces between about
1.5k and 1.7k). I know very little about a/t's, but it seems like the torque converter is engaging and disengaging, if there is such a thing. What are your thoughts on this? What could be causing this? The shop is very helpful, and is working on it completely under warranty, but can't seem to find the problem. The other problem, which I'm sure they can fix once it gets cold enough to reproduce itself is, when it's cold outside (cold being less than 45F, I live in TX), it will hang in second gear, sometimes even shift into first, when accelerating. That is, it shifts in first fine, then second, then instead of third, it hangs in second, and might even go back into first. It will finally go into third, and once it does, it drives fine the rest of the day. Like i said, it's only when it's cold outside, being over 50 it has no problems, and they won't open it up until they can feel the problem for themselves, which is something I've noticed as standard at a few tranny shops. Anyway, if anyone could give me any insight on either of these problems, I'd greatly appreciate it. As is, this car is fastly heading for the junkyard, which kills me because I love it, but let's face it, what good is it to fix up a car with tranny problems...
And also brings me to my next question, which I will post as a new thread, which new max is best (00 to 05).
