'92 SE Engine: Starting problem ...

Hi,

Was out of town for 5 days. Came back late evening and started my Nissan. Wouldn't start at night. After leaving out in the sun for a few hours, tried to start again. This time while turning the key, I pumped the accelerator in and out several times and finally the engine caught on and started after a few hiccups.

I then pressed and held the accelerator until the engine RPM was around 4k and held it for about 15 seconds. Then drove around the block and it seems to be running fine right now. I also put in a bottle of STP Super Concentrated Fuel Injection cleaner fluid while filling up with gas and the engine sounds and runs fine. I am guessing the fuel injectionNo abnormal sounds so far.

Anybody give me a clue what is happening? I believe this is a symptom which will lead to some major repairs. Any advice on what I can do to prevent this from happening in future?

I have been using 93 Octane fuel for the past 3 years now. The car has approx 163K miles on it. Everything else in the car is working.

Any advice is welcome. Thanks.

PS: By the way, the Conoco 93 octane gas seems to work better on my car compared to Texaco 93 Octane or even QuikTrip 93 Octane. Any idea why this is so? I am basing this on the speed pickup I get while driving.

I have one I bought new. It has done exactly that five or six times in this many years and almost 200K miles. I have asked the dealers and they didn't know. It did it, to my recollection, on very high humidity days in the fall.
