94 maxima VS 94 Saab S

The Saab is bound to be much less reliable, but perhaps more unique. I'd get the Maxima. But then, this is a Maxima newsgroup:)

SAAB 94

-Unique

-Distinctive styling

-Good looking and fancier than the Max

-Good engine and far better transmission than the Max

-Clarion Radio is even better than the Boose in the Max

-But repairs are ridiculously high and some repair shops will not even admit you (along with Peugeot and Alpha Romeo)

-Parts are really expensive and take days to deliver. An external mirror will cost you about $400 and will they have to order it from Sweden.

Max 94 -No unique styling, but a lot more reliable than the SAAB.

- Cost of ownership almost nothing. Even your nephew can troubleshoot or repair it when you have a problem.

- Will dust the SAAB at will

- Parts can be found everywhere

-Still a beautiful car--even better looking than the MAX 95,96,97

I did own both cars a few years ago. You can understand why I end up with a Max 02 now.

Given these are such old cars now, I think reliability and cost-of-ownership would be the major issue. Plus I think the Saabs are kinda dorky looking beings I'm an architect and pretty critical of aesthetic design. But beauty is in the eye of the heholder, so take that FWIW. If the Max is in good shape mechanically and body, it's hard to beat the smoothness and easy driveability of these cars. I have a 90 & a 94 and the 94 is just an easy driving, very light, comfortable automobile. It shifts beautifully, has good pep and is coffin-quiet on the highway. It's not a great handling car, but has a big car ride which makes it a great vehicle for long-trips.

Just my $2 worth.
