This Is how I did mine.

Remove the rear seat

  1. Remove seat cushion by pulling out the retainers(2) then pulling up sharply on the seat.
  2. After removing the cushion remove the bolts(2-3) and remove the seat back.

Remove rear package shelf.

  1. Use taped screw driver to pry the rear roof pillar trim panels out. The rear shoulder belts are routed through the panels so just slide the panels along the belt so they are out of the way.
  2. Pry up the package shelf with a trim tool(found at any hardware store) or taped screw driver. Slide the trim tool between the shelf and the body until you locate the plastic pins, then pry up.
  3. Lift the rear package shelf up for access and remove the rear speaker mounting screws
  4. Remove and replace speakers. Do reverse of every step for Installation. Note: It is not recommended to replace the grills in my 99 Max as the grill is part of the shelf. But I guess you could cut it out and replace but will probably not be worth the extra effort. Just replace the speakers and toss the grills.
