brakes 03 max

Have a 2003 Max and am told 85% of front brakes are gone. Car has 57,000 miles so that's likely true. Dealer wants to do brakes and turn rotors (?)

Not something I can or should do myself. Should I go to a dealer or can most places handle this? Any brand of brakes better than others.

Thanks in advance

When you brake, do you notice any pulsating in the brakes? If the stop is smooth, it's unlikely you need your rotors turned. Turning rotors is a very common way for a repair shop to make extra money on an unnecessary job.

Brake pads are about the easiest DIY repair you can do. Jack up the car, take off the wheel, take off the caliper (hang it with wire so it's not hanging by the brake line), replace pads. Install in reverse order.

And to get you to come back if warped rotors was the problem. It's easy for a turned rotor to warp again, and profitable if they replace them.
