Drain and fill on auto tranny

They used to put those numbers in the owners manual, but as I look in the book for the '02 they are not in there any more. Your best bet is to phone the local dealer's parts desk and ask how much you need for a drain & fill. 7 quarts is likely more than enough. My Acura TL uses less than 3 quarts for drain and fill. You could always save the old stuff and strain some back in if necessary.

You have more than enough fluid. Mine drains 5.7 quarts if left sitting overnight. It trickles out slowly after a while, but it does keep coming out for hours. If you rush it, you'll get almost a quart less out of it.

You should probably put on a new crimp seal on the drain plug if you can, to avoid any possibility of leaks. Same one that goes on the oil plug.

if all you doing is a drain and fill by removing the drain plug , all you will need is a little over 4 quarts to get the job done

be sure to check the level when the engine is at idle , in park at operating temp

What am I not understanding about this technique is if I'm only getting 4 quarts out at a time, and then having to top-up/repeat... how is this really different from a drain-fill, start car, cycle-through gears/repeat method? It would just seem easier to drain-fill/repeat than fiddle with removing the pressure hose and all that... am I missing something?

Also, with the hose-removal method, do you have to start the car and cycle through the gears between repititions?
