Heated seats not working

Sep 10, 2003 4 Replies

Just bought a '99 SE Limited and although the red 'LEDs' on both switches light up when switching on the heated seats, the seats never heat up. The

10 amp fuse in the dash is fine.

Anyone ever have such a problem? I'm assuming that since BOTH seats do not work, its some kind of common problem between them as opposed to each seat being broken internally.

Any ideas? Thanks, Bob

Bob, The heater is controlled by a thermostat, automatically turning the heater on and off. See if that might be the problem.

a few ideas:

1-first, It takes a few minutes before you start noticing the heat.

2-Look under thre seats, check the electric connections. Probe with a voltmeter for voltage when the switches are on.

  1. use a multimeter to see if the elements circuits are open or have continuity.

Also look for something basic like the connectors not being connected. If someone had removed the seats for cleaning, etc, they may have forgotten to reconnect the heater wires.

Thanks for all the tips but looks like this will just have to be diagnosed down to the problem(s). I was hoping for a quick answer to avoid a trip to the dealer. Seats do not warm up, ever. I checked and the connectors look good. Too close to the side air bag wires for me to feel comfortable doing any heavy poking around under there.... Car is covered under dealer's full warranty so I have scheduled them to have a look on Monday. (BTY... this is my first Maxima, and I just LOVE it!) Thanks for the suggestions, Bob
