I would think any more money spent on that Maxima would be wasted. It's time to have it hauled off.

...250,000 mi. ... The mileage means every moving part has worn, no secret.

"wWhat do I do???" At least accept reality, cease complaining seller. You buy worn car, you get worn car...

Options:

  • Sell as is (compare your area prices, read ads)
  • replace engine then ...start welding hidden rottin corners? Easily ends with ? 10.000$ car (worth 2k). Still youre winner - with 1/3 price of new maxima, So Be happy!

A car is never investment but a bottomless well to sink money...

If money is the issue, I'd go shoppin for an low mileage 1k car, spend

2k reconditioning it, drive 4yrs, repeat... There are plenty driveable four cylinder (=cheap to upkeep, drive) cars. I used to be happy with Stanza (...until I met my Maxima.) Before purchasing, let some mech do an inspection, pay for that. Maxima is generally very reliable, but problems may become suddendly costly if you have to use shops - which love to swap costly parts as method of trouble/customer $hooting...

You can buy a replacement VQDE30 engine for your maxima for 500 bucks and have an independent (competent) mechanic install it. VQs run for ever (if maintained)... you can easily find one with 100k or less on it and have it swapped in and you'll be good to go. The key is to find a competent shop to do the work.

I'd either give up on it or buy a used engine AND transmission as it's no more work to replace both. You can likely get a deal buying both together as well. When the car overheats, the trans also overheats (automatic I assume?) so it could have been damaged as well.

I agree with Nirav, You can buy used VQ's all day long for 500 bucks with less than 60 k miles on them

You can get it installed for about a grand or less.

I'll give you 500 right now for it if you live somewhere in Florida,I'll be right over to get it
