Re: 2002-2003 Maxima HID headlight theft problem

I was scrounging around in the garage last night and found two pieces of metal I intend to mount over the mounting brackets for the headlights. . about an inch by ten inches long . . you can get these at any hardware store or look around your own garage. .. with additional bolts with different size sockets using the factory holes in the frame . . . I also intend to mount a piece of scrap metal over the hood latch and the cable . these are so easily accessible behind the sparse grill and so easy to open I don't know whey they just didn't put the handle there and save more $$$ . . .these will cost me nothing . . .

. . it is so pathetically easy to remove these lights . .the hood latch is easy to pop with a screwdriver and two measly bolts for the $1000 components . . .I'm making it harder . . .yes they could crowbar them out but most thieves don't carry these . . .it's a bit conspicuous . .and noisy. .thieves want quick in and out . . .and carry only the few tools they normally need . .they'll need several sockets with mine . . .and the longer they realize it's going to take them to remove the lights the better chance they'll just move on to another car . . they make no money chopping a car up and $$$ what they're after . . ..

How about using hood secure pins like on a Hot-Rod or Dragster with locks instead of pins? You could get them case hardened so they wouldn't be easy to cut with bolt cutters.

Then the thieves would think you had a high performance engine.

What the hell do they steal the lights for anyhow? Who the hell steals them?

Well, they steal the lights for the same reason they steal anything else. . because they can make lots of $$$ reselling them . . the lights are close to $1000 PER SIDE to replace .. the Maxima is not the only car that is being ripped off for these . .but it is probably one of the easiest because of cheap design by Nissan. . .

Apparently in Canada lots of older cars are being retrofitted with these lights, which is legal there . . in US lots of 2000-2001 Nissan Maximas, which don't come with HID, are retrofitted with 2002-03 HID, which are an exact swap once you put an auxiliary wiring harness in which changes the voltage to that required by the HID . . .2000-2001 Maxes are favorites with the Fast & Furious set as they can be bought for very low cost . . .

Go on ebay and watch the bidding for Nissan Maxima HID . . the prices being bid are unreal . . much of this is probably stolen property . . .

Air bags are being ripped off too for the same reason . . .

Hood secure pins require drilling the hood .. but you could rig a chain or braided wire to lock the hood shut . ..maybe I'll do that too . . .

So those that are upgrading their Maxima's lights are crooks. The dealers should report upgraded units to the police so that the police can follow the supply chain back and put and end to this shit.
