Safety Recall: 2000-2003 Maxima - Crank Position Sensor

FYI - just got a recall notice in the mail. Nissan is saying that 'some' 2000-2003 model year Nissan vehicles are affected (they did not mention the Maxima or any specific models)

It says there is a possibility of the crank position sensor malfunctioning while the engine is on, and that the engine may stall while driving if the sensor fails. It also may cause an SES light or reduced power before it is bad enough to stop the engine.

Nissan says to have your car inspected as soon as possible if you have an SES (service engine soon) light. Otherwise make an appointment when convenient to have the crank sensors replaced.

If you didn't get the letter, your car probably isn't affected, but I would guess that since it is a 2000-2003 issue, a lot of us will be getting these notices!

I'm sure it was new to you as you have just received the notice of recall.

The reason I don't post recall information of this or any other site/news group is because it insights panic among owners.

You must think I work for Nissan or something, right ?

Well I don't , I work for a dealership called Autoway Nissan.

I not there to "save" mother Nissan any money , I could care less how much of their money I spend.

I spend thousands of Nissan's dollars every day fixing vehicles that are under warranty and some that are not because as a technician some of my pay is based on what Nissan calls my F1 (fixed right the first time) score. So I do what ever it takes to get the vehicle fixed the first time and make the customer happy.

Please don't piss off NissTech, netters. His postings have been very educative for me as the owner of a 2002 Maxima GLE.

Comments such as Rex's are petty, silly and unnecessary.

Thanks Dr. B.

As is NissTech's paternalistic "the dealer knows better" attitude.

In case you haven't noticed, NissTech has a common theme only to frequently... take it to the dealer. By far, most of the "netters" you address come to this forum to share experiences and knowledge largely to avoid going back to the "dealer$", to use a nettism.

While he does offer useful information, especially for the most novice among us, his critics are not without merit IMO.

I do agree with you , sir. However, I suspect that most us at maxima.org are not that tech savvy and his and your postings give us novices a kind of heads up before we go to the jargon spewing dealers...

The beauty of maxima.org group is the liveliness of the exchanges. Sometime I simply log on to de-stress. Keep up the solidarity, y'all...
