A couple of 306 issues...

On a 1997 Pug 306 1.4 Style I have the following problems:

  1. Occasionally when going over speed bumps or 'near lethal' pot holes in the road, a thump sound comes from the front passenger side - it sounds like the bumper thumping, but theres not a single scratch mark on the bottom of the bumper, and it is no way close enough to the road to scrape it in my opinion anyhow! Have check the suspension and all is very firm as expected on all corners of the car. What could this be?

  1. When turning to the left at speed, say above 20 Mph there is an on and off squeaking sound - seemingly from the front drivers side of the car. When going at slow speeds there is no noise heard at all. Wheel bearing on it's way out? Brakes? What could this one be?

Any advice would be most gratefully appreciated.

Thanks.

I had both problems on my 406 and in both cases it turned out to be mud flaps. The rear one was striking raised ground (road humps et al) and on the front one the mounting strip had bent outwards and was fouling the wheel on turns. Removed the rear ones and straightened the strip on the front one. Fine now.

I have a Pegeuot 306 XR 1.4l '96.

I have a problem similar to yours: I get creaking/squeaking sounds from the backside of the car when going reverse or turning. Not sure whether it is just left or right - I don't know.

I would love to stop the creaking, so if anyone knows how to, or what causes it - I'd love to know. I also heard something about problematic anti-roll bars on Pugs, but I'm not sure whether this is related.
