Fast Idle Speed (205 GTI)

Hi,

My Peugeot 205 1.6 GTi has always idled on the fast side.

Recently, I had a cambelt and some valves replaced. The car now seem s to idle even faster.

If the mechanic removed 80,000mls of carbon from the head, could this account for the increased idle speed? (assuming that he did not reset the idle speed).

Thanks

Hi,

I don't think it would increase the idle speed. IIRC, the idle speed on such fuel injection systems is adjusted the most classic way possible, by a screw... The HBOL should tell more about that, and give the typical values for idle speeds (depending wether the engine is cold or warm*). The point is, the 205s revcounter are not known to give a sharp reading at low revs.

  • Anyway, and from experience, FI XU engines use to idle like a bitch, really erratic and irregular idle, esp when cold. That's to me a part of their glamour - not being very objective here, as we're just talking about my early years ;-)

HTH,
