Can someone tell me if Peugeot already found a cure for the Oil level indicator problem?

Hello,
Naving no oil level indicator on my 205, but watching it working on my parents' 206, I'd say the indicator is a bit too sensitive. And even if I totally agree with you, I'd add that the cost of an engine (whatever it is) compared to the cost of having a look to the dispstick makes me recommend the good, old dipstick at least from time to time.
