Sunfire makes noise when going over bumps

May 30, 2004 2 Replies

I just picked up a used 2001 Sunfire the other day, and used it for a full day without any problems. But since pulling out of the driveway this morning, every little bump in the road causes a noise from the driver's side wheel well.

I checked the wheel well and the spring seems to be compressed a lot more on the driver's side than the passenger side. There is about 3" of space between the "rungs" of the spring on the passenger side, but only half that much space between them on the driver's side.

The noise only eminates from the driver's side in front, and only when driving over bumps. Over perfectly smooth road, it's like nothing is wrong at all.

Any ideas? Does this seem like something that can be easily fixed, perhaps at home, or will the car be in the shop for a while?

Thanks in advance for any helpful responses.

i have similar problems..

and ive seen lots of sunfires making similar nosies on the street :))

so i think its a common problem which annoys you but doesnt limit your driving..

I say just disgard it :) and drive

Funny, usually these cars have lot's of noise from the rear struts. In any case, noise like this is often caused by the upper strut mounts (both front and rear struts have this problem on these cars).
