924 for UK Porsche Speed Championship

Aug 21, 2003 1 Replies

I am considering purchasing a 924 for use in the Porsche Speed Championship and would appreciate some advice on a few issues (if you didn't know, the championship is based around hillclimbs and sprints and is split into classes according to bhp). I did initially consider the 924s as it has the better engine and has disc brakes as standard, but these cars seem quite hard to find and are generally more expensive to buy and maintain. So, what I am looking at is a standard 924, which I intend to make some upgrades to in order to increase bhp (the limit for the class is

161bhp)and generally lighten and stiffen the car. What I would really like to know is: a)What the most cost efficient tuning is (exhaust, polishing, new cam, etc). b)How difficult it is to convert the standard 924 to disc brakes all round. c)Any ways that the car may be easily lightened.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Jonathan Prestidge

As far as disc brakes go, some UK companies offer a 944 brake conversion which also includes converting to 5 stud hubs. If I remember I'll post what company it is. (Might be Lodge Sport - 0161 3715598)
