Noise on gerabox?

Hi,

the car is ´80 911 SC and while driving the gearbox (or differential?) keeps a wailing noise. The noise is heard no matter which gear is on. Sounds like bearing fault, but can anyone guess is ti gearbox or differential? Is this how fatal fault since gear works fine. Repairing cost esimate?
