Prius Still on top

I earned my driving privileges in 1954 and have owned many vehicles during the intervening years. I ordered a 2010 Prius last Friday. It will replace the 2005 Prius I'm giving my daughter and her family. I bought the 2005 for it's low emissions and low fuel consumption. As an electrical engineer, I was impressed by the technology.

The 2005 exceeded my expectations. I was surprised by how comfortably it seats 5 passengers. Compared the SUV and minivan I'd most recently owned, it was quicker and handled better. I live in a very cold climate and it's cold weather performance, including starting at temperature below -30F, was exceptional.

I'm looking forward to the arrival of the 2010 in about six weeks and my daughter is very anxious to receive the 2005. All I can say to those of you who criticize the Prius is this: Drive one for a week. You will come to appreciate it's capacity, utility and performance. Little wonder that here in the U.S. it has the highest customer satisfaction level ever achieved.

I quoted these exact figures in another post a couple of days ago.

Hip room: Corolla 53.0 inches. Prius 52.7 inches.

The 7 inches you make out to be incredibly significant is only in the back seat, and spread across three passengers that's a tad over an inch per side per person.

Hardly the difference between small and large :)

It's *seven* inches. It's hardly massive especially if you're talking about kids being the back seat passengers.

Different seats may be more comfortable, but that doesn't mean they're bigger. For mine I prefer the Corolla seats. Iin fact I prefer the entire Corolla interior rather than the wanky shit they've loaded the Prius with.

The car has that "coin operated kiddies ride" feel about it to me.

*Some* German cars are, but then some German cars are absolutely brilliant.

Mercedez Benz and Porsche make some of the most over-rated vehicles on the planet, whereas BMW and Volkswagen make *very* fine motor vehicles. Audi can be a bit hit and miss.

Obviously you've never heard of Acura or Lexus :)

I thought having a mid life crisis was what buying a Lexus was all about?

Let me guess....

The sum total of your German car knowledge is based on you owning *one*

1970's Benz when it was already 15 years old and run into the ground.

That's *not* right actually.

The cars I mostly see with non working lights are Holdens, Fords and anything Italian. Around here most German stuff tends to be pretty good.

Germany must really dump their shit off onto you guys. Perhaps it's their way of getting back after the MB-Chrysler fiasco :)

See them occasionally, and don't think anything of it really.

If you ever get the oportunity to ride in (let alone own) something like a BMW M3 I thoroughly recommend you do so. They're one of the greatest cars ever made.

Who in the f*ck would you know? They are nothing like an XP Foulcan :)

I'm sure they do and I doubt you would have a clue...

And yours would be?

Let me guess, "I was a repco mechanic and I've fixed every car on the planet"!!

ROTFLMAO..:)

I'll bet no one was stupid enough to let you drive one! I guess this "Dreaming shit" is where you are on par with O'zone :)

Other than being very small, I don't really know.

Ummmm.....Audi is just VW with a fancier feature set, just like Acura is just Honda with a fancier feature set.

Not even close. Thanks for playing.

No doubt.

As a daily driver? For a long period?

YOU'RE the one complaining about hybrids because of the batteries; how about the maintenance costs of an M3 over, say, 10 years?

BMWs are built to be three-year-lease wonders, toys for people who can afford them, always under a warranty.

Percentage wise it's huge, and it makes all the difference in the world.

Ah. So you DIDN'T quote these exact figures, because you ignored them.

Ronlad, do you forget I ran a service and repair business for some 15 years?

Unfortunately they don't make anything that looks as good as an XP coupe :)

More than I'd like to in a lot of cases.

You mean ROTFLBIACDWLAHOS :)

That's "Rolling on the floor laughing because I'm a complete d*****ad who laughs at his own shadow"

Just to clue you in Ronny, I was a mechanic before I went to Repco, and I went to Repco to become an Automotive machinist eventually running my own business where, amongst other things, I did a *shitload* of work on exotic cars for a broker who specialised in the things.

You'd bet wrong of course Ronny, but then you always do. They're a sensational car to drive, and about the only car I'd consider to be close enough to be "exotic" that I'd ever want to own.

Apart from a GT40 of course :)

Oz can talk the talk, but when it comes time to do the walking he puts his skates on and does whatever sidesteps are necessary to avoid backing up a single thing he has to say. Unlike him I don't paint myself into corners by telling "stories" simply because I don't need to. I might be a lot of things, but liar ain't one of them and I'm happy to back up anything I claim.

People from this group have been to my home and seen me and my shit in the flesh. There's nothing fake about it.

No, I didn't ignore them. *You* mentioned extra hip room but said nothing about it only being in the back.

And you were so good at it, you have plenty of time to sit on the Usenet like you do.

Where did you get the idea that mine is a "one car experience"?

Reply to
Elmo P. Shagnasty

"Badges" meaning "interior feature set, suspension tuning, and engine management choices". Chassis and hardpoints, engines--all the same things, because they're the same cars.
