Hi all

I got a J reg rover 214i and I goes away for a few days leaving the car now I did run the battery down a little before I went and also fuel was quite low....

anyway I comes back and the batterys dead.. So I gets a new battery and gets the car to start.. so I leave it and go back to next day and it turns over no problem but the engine will not start !! I have a liitle fuel according to the gauge so I gets some more fuel in and still no joy... just turns over...

Can any kind sir gimme some tips on how to get this car up and running.

BTW the car is kept outside so I suppose damp could be an issue here.

Unscrew the distributor cap and check its not damp inside. If it is dry it out and it'll probably start first go.

This wont damage anything. they are still 12 volts...

My 414 spent the two years I owned it permanently outside in all weathers, so damp shouldn't be an issue. However, the Rover MEMS ECU senses battery voltage amongst other things, so you must check to make sure you've got really good connections on the battery terminals - my first guess anyway being as you've disturbed the battery...
