Any ideas chaps?
If the lights are dimming, and so do the headlights when you turn them on and try to start, sounds like the battery is flat or dud to me.
Tim. .
As it turns out i tried the other key fob and it started so the chip has gone in the one i use daily.
Try changing or cleaning the battery contacts and refitting them in the same way as they come out.
All the best, Peter.

Its not that type of unit Pete its sealed and a phone call to them said it has to be renewed and callibrated with the code so under the dash we go now just to find the numbers.....ho hum.
If it's a Volvoguard alarm system with the grey rectangular fob (with rounded corners) a set of new batteries is probably all that's needed. 'Calibration' is documented in the Volvoguard handbook and is very simple. Here's a link to an online copy:
'They' may be telling you it needs replacement and calibration to squeeze some money out of you.
Ah - just read the OP. Sorry, ignore me!
